Tuesday at 7:15 am we departed for the Vatican to tour the Sistine Chapel and Saint Peter’s Basilica. Our tour group is quite small at only 14 people so it makes it much nicer, don’t need to wait for so many people. Here are pictures of the Vatican Museum.
Next we went through the Sistine Chapel, but pictures were not allowed. The Michaelangelo paintings on the walls and the ceiling are amazing. From there we went into Saint Peter Basilica. As soon as you walk in you immediately feel smal because it’s so massive. There is so much to see from sculptures to mosaics. It is a bit overwhelming. It just cannot be captured in pictures.
Here are a few pics of St Peter’s Square.
We had a 2 hour break for lunch after arriving back at the hotel before our next tour, so we walked down the street to this sidewalk cafe for pizza and a glass of wine. Next was a tour of the Catacombs which are subterranean burial grounds which date back to the 2nd century. Interesting but not high on my list of things to see. Unable to take pictures so can’t show you what it was like. Then we went to see the Michaelangelo’s sculpture of Moses.
Dinner was on our own last night, enjoyed a couple glasses of wine at a sidewalk cafe then some spaghetti and meatballs.
Visiting the Vatican is on my travel wish list. Thanks for taking me there through your photos.
